The Museum of Science & History, or MOSH as it's known, is hosting a birthday gathering for one of its more senior residents. Tonca, the venerable alligator snapping turtle, is apparently turning 59 this year, which is quite the achievement for a creature mostly known for looking ancient. The celebration is set for Saturday, July 19, running from 12:00 PM to 1:00 PM, so it's a quick one, probably because Tonca needs a nap.

Expect some insights into Tonca's life and perhaps a few activities, though one can only imagine what constitutes a 'party' for an alligator snapping turtle. There will be treats, but these are strictly for Tonca, so don't show up expecting a slice of birthday cake for yourself. It's more of an opportunity to appreciate a long lived Jacksonville animal, without the usual party fuss.
