Jacksonville's historic track and field tradition, the Bob Hayes Invitational Track Meet, is undergoing a significant change after over 50 years at Raines High School. The annual event will relocate to the University of North Florida's Visit Jacksonville Track at Hodges Stadium starting March 18, 2023. The move, nearly 15 miles southeast of its original location, signifies a new era for the iconic meet. Previously held at Raines High School, the Bob Hayes Invitational has been a prominent fixture on Jacksonville's sports calendar, honoring Hayes, the Jacksonville native who achieved the title of the world's fastest man in the 100-meter dash at the 1964 Tokyo Olympics. The transition to UNF's modern track marks a fresh chapter for this annual celebration of athletic prowess, paying homage to the legacy of Bob Hayes, who also achieved success in football, earning a Super Bowl win with the Dallas Cowboys and later entering the Pro Football Hall of Fame as a Matthew W. Gilbert High School graduate.
