If you're looking to keep the kids from turning into couch potatoes next week, the Jacksonville Public Library has a Summer Reading Program that might do the trick. There's a bit of everything to stop the boredom: storytimes with themes probably cooler than your average bedtime tale, some hands-on STEM labs where kids can pretend to be mini Einstein's without the crazy hair, puppet shows (because who doesn't like a good sock with a face), crafts to get the glue on their hands and not just the furniture, and even teen game nights to keep the older crowd from sneaking off to their screens.
The whole shebang runs across a bunch of library branches, so you can almost pretend you're on a mini adventure just getting there. It's designed for families and kids of every age which basically means no one gets left out—unless you're a grumpy grandparent, then you might just have to supervise. It's all about mixing a little reading with a lot of fun and possibly avoiding the "I'm bored" chorus for a few days.
